Aka the BN Eastney Naturist Beach Liaison Group picnic.  Was it Mike that asked members to suggest a snappier name for this group? I have some reservations about the name 'Eastney Bares' - it does not really explain our purpose or give credit to the contribution made by BN but it is fun and would possibly appeal to the Press.  I've started the ball rolling, so please, let's hear your comments and suggestions.

Take care,

Hi Steve

Just seen your message and I have just thought of "Eastney Bares To Protect" or "A Stripped Naked Eastney".

I hope that this will maybe get some other people's wittier juices going.

For some time we have been trying to come up with something better than BN Eastney Naturist Beach Liaison Group which is a bit long-winded to say the least. In the end, at a recent steering group meeting, we decided on "Eastney Naturists". Now, that may not be particularly snappy but we needed a resolution to the issue quickly in order to set up the bank account for the campaign.

So, for the time being that's what it is I'm afraid.

Regards

Sorry Barewalker but I disagree.  I think it makes the group sound 'cheap' and just in it for the thrill of it!  Could it not just be ... Eastney Naturists - Summer Picnic?  To my way of thinking it does at least make the group appear serious in their endeavours, which of course they are!

I was at the beach (by myself) for a large part of the day on Saturday and it was lovely - particularly as it was only my second visit and the first time by myself!  The weather was wonderful and the afternoon just got hotter!

Somewhere I read that a woman's viewpoint would be appreciated, so here is mine.

As I was there relatively early I was able to easily find a place to settle down (near the large stones) although I doubt I would have felt as comfortable in say, the middle of the beach. I was near enough to listen to someone strumming on their guitar and yet could still hear the waves.  What really struck me was the overall quiet on the beach - no noisy children running about and screaming, no loud voices or loud music - what bliss! Sometime during the afternoon a large group of youths came by on their bicycles and were quite verbal in their observations but I didn't let it bother me and nor did anyone else as far as I am aware.

I took time to look at the existing MOD buildings and would find it hard to understand if we were made to feel unwelcome when the demolition starts.  A lot of what is there would be dismantled rather than demolished and there is quite a large area of land between the footprint of the building and the perimeter fence. Apart from the dust and noise, perhaps we would be left in peace?

I have also decided to write to the council and will let the group see what I submit. There are also other issues I would like to discuss within the group but will do that privately.

Hi Pamela,

Thank you for your comment and I respect your view. I guess the name came to me because my whole perspective on life is one of fun, I'm seldom reverent on any matter really and my attitude towards naturism is much like David Martin's of Coast & Country Naturists - something to be enjoyed at every opportunity. It was interesting to hear of your encounter with those cruising youths. A couple of years ago, I was at Clarence Pier with my family and overheard a group of youngsters daring themselves to venture up to the 'nudist bit' but on that occasion too many objected to cycling so far for mere titillation.
